Chris Benitez, MA, LMHC, Albuquerque

Chris is a graduate of the Counseling program at The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He has experience working with adolescents and adults with a wide range of concerns including Eating Disorders, Addictions, Depression, Anxiety, and co-occurring disorders.

Chris’s primary theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. As a therapist, Chris believes that all people have the power and potential to heal from, and through, the suffering that they experience in their lives. Through mindfulness, loving kindness meditation, and CBT techniques, Chris empowers and collaborates with clients to transform their relationship to the behavior and thought patterns in their lives that cause distress to find new approaches that promote thriving.

Chris has a dedicated meditation practice that is rooted in the early Buddhist Tradition. He strives to bring the practices of mindfulness and loving kindness meditation into therapy in ways that are ethical, trauma-informed, and also avoid cultural appropriation.

In his spare time, Chris is likely to disappear into the mountains to delight in hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, or photography. Chris is currently engaged in a Professional Ecotherapy Certification Program, and he hopes to bring nature-based practices into his therapeutic work.
