Saskia Vanderploeg is a licensed mental health counselor. She spent some of her formative years in Holland and the Middle East which has helped her to see the world with openness and humility. She feels that Santa Fe is a special place to live and is happy to be growing roots here. Saskia received her master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University in Colorado. She enjoys working with people who want someone to accompany them at times as they face the challenges of living in this day and age.
Her style of counseling draws from psychodynamic, humanistic, existential as well as postmodern constructivism approaches. Her techniques amongst others can include cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. She has knowledge and experience with working with people who experience amongst other things: depression, relational challenges, different states of reality, anxiety, and challenges with mood.
According to Saskia: “I believe that in relationship we heal. In our sessions I hope to build a positive therapeutic relationship. Together we will create a safe place where you can be supported and challenged. Where you can be your authentic self, and where you will feel moved to grow into your potential. I particularly enjoy working with people who see themselves as different and not part of the mainstream culture. There are common experiences of being a human that we all share. These experiences help us to connect and, if we can also be seen and appreciated in those things that make us feel set apart, there is a deepening of relating to others that is healing.”
