Dilshani Ternus, MA, LMHC, Albuquerque

Dilshani Ternus, MA, LMHC received her undergraduate degree in Sociology from Eastern New Mexico University, and her master’s in Counseling from New Mexico Highlands University.  She has extensive experience working with a wide range of clients including many involved in the Federal, State and Metropolitan court systems.  Amongst those were court-mandated domestic violence offenders, violent crimes parolees and offenders awaiting sentencing.  Dilshani has served many families reuniting with parolees on societal reentry, grief and loss, parenting and addiction.  Her previous practice included being one of the primary clinicians for the Domestic Violence Specialty Court in Bernalillo County, NM which encompassed being a subject matter expert for the court and assisting in providing sentencing recommendations.  She was also a member of the county’s Domestic Violence Multi-disciplinary Task Force, serving with legal, law enforcement and therapy experts.  Dilshani embraces a multi-modal, trauma informed, client centered approach.  She’s been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Short Term, Motivational Interviewing and Nurtured Heart approaches. 

Dilshani is an avid knitter, watercolor artist and weightlifter, and a rabid Seattle Seahawks fan. She and her husband reside in Albuquerque with their two Alaskan Malamute puppies. Her varied life experiences as a military wife and mother inform her approach to the work of therapy.
